Competition win means Roland has home insurance covered
The cost of Christmas has become £500 less weighty for competition winner Roland Barker - as he doesn’t need to cough up cash for his home insurance premium this year.
Roland, 68, recently visited our Melton Mowbray branch and was taken through a quote for his home insurance by customer services consultant Elizabeth Smilyk.
He was automatically entered into the competition, which runs until 24 December in all of our branches and online.
And Roland was delighted to hear that his name had come out of the hat as one of the 16 winners (two a week) in the £8,000 giveaway.
His plans are to spend the winnings on taking out the home insurance policy - freeing up extra cash for he and wife Eileen to spend on the family over the festive period.
Dad-of-one Roland said: “Finding out we had won the competition came out of the blue - we’ve never really won anything before.
“My wife and I have savings accounts at the Melton Mowbray branch and when we were in there one day Elizabeth asked if she could quote us for our home insurance. Ours was about due for renewal so we said no problem.
“After finding out we had won we worked out that the prize money covered our home insurance premium, give or take a few pounds. So we decided to take out the policy with The Nottingham and are happy with it as we are more than adequately covered.
“The bonus is that the money that would have been spent on the home insurance can now go towards us having a happy family Christmas together.”
