Jade Lisa's Instagram perfect home

Everyone dreams of one day owning their perfect home, whether it’s a country cottage or a modern townhouse. We recently asked the nation which features and amenities they think are essential for their dream home and found that front and back gardens, a garage, an en-suite and at least three bedrooms are the most desired*.

Keen to know more about the ‘Forever Homes’ of the nation, we asked four home and lifestyle influencers to open their doors to us and share their stories about how they have achieved their dream homes. Interior Instagrammer Jade Lisa Home discusses finding the perfect home that suited her family’s needs...

“When we were looking for our forever home, location and size played a huge part in our decision on what to buy. We wanted our children to grow up by the sea and have a large garden to play in. We now live within a ten-minute walk of the coast and absolutely love where we live and love our home. But it took a lot of time and energy to make it the light and bright family home it is today.

“The ground floor of our house was originally a rabbit warren of small rooms, so we knocked through to create a large open plan space. When house hunting, don’t be afraid to take a look at renovation projects: a house that needs work is a great way to add your own style right from the start. Look beyond the flaws of a property and look at how the space can be maximised to work around you and your needs.

“It’s helpful to think about future proofing too, particularly with a growing family. When we moved into our current home, we only had two children, but that quickly doubled to four with the arrival of twins! Every decision in the house has been made to suit the size of our family, particularly in regards to storage. I’m a big fan of storage boxes and baskets, as they are a great way to hide any clutter. Likewise, I planned our kitchen to have lots of cupboards and deep drawers, as they are perfect for hiding away toys, games and crafts.

“When it comes to style, I am an avid fan of Pinterest and Instagram for sourcing ideas. I save images that I’m drawn to, which tend to be coastal and rustic in style. You don’t need to spend a fortune to create a stylish home either: I’m a huge believer in upcycling furniture, with many of our pieces coming from charity shops. I love using chalk paint to give new life to an old piece of furniture”.
