From royalty to loyalty for Cambridgeshire couple

Husband and wife Mike and Jo Taylor have rubbed shoulders with royalty, but when it comes to making the most of their finances it’s loyalty that’s the key.

Prior to retirement the 80-year-old, who live in March in Cambridgeshire, spent over a decade employed at a prestigious 100-bedroom hotel and conference centre in Windsor and were photographed with HRH the Queen and other members of The Royal Family.

But despite those glamorous moments the down-to-earth couple, who have been married for 59 years, have always kept their feet on the ground - particularly with regards to financial planning.

The Taylors were shrewd in maintaining a property interest in Cambridgeshire throughout their time working in Windsor, with Harrison Murray Estate Agency (part of The Nottingham) helping them as purchasers, vendors and landlords at different intervals.

So when the pair decided to see if they could “make more” of their money and also to put funeral plans in place there was a natural home on their high street to turn to - The Nottingham.

Mike takes up the tale: “We’ve built up a great relationship with the Harrison Murray team at the March branch over the years due to their fantastic property expertise and their help with all our requirements on that front.

“It’s important for my wife and I to talk face-to-face about our finances, so when the time came to see if we could make more of our savings and set up funeral plans the obvious place was The Nottingham, particularly as other financial services organisations are disappearing off our high street.

“It might be a depressing thought to some people but the fact is that we are coming towards the end of our life, so it’s important we have everything in order - particularly for our daughter, Heather, so she doesn’t have to worry about sorting anything.

“We believe in trust and loyalty and would always look to Harrison Murray to look after our property needs. The added bonus with the company being part of The Nottingham is that we have also been able to entrust our savings to a large, established mutual building society.

“The icing on the cake is that we have also been able to put funeral plans in place with the help of the extremely friendly March team and also plan to talk to them about our home insurance policy when it is ready for renewal.

“The Nottingham has it all under one roof, and we are very happy about that. We would recommend them to anyone.”

As qualifying members the Taylors will also both receive the bonus of £120 cashback each from us as part of our Member Rewards initiative, after being introduced to and setting up prepaid funeral plans with society partner Dignity.

Under Member Rewards, members who have a savings balance of at least £500 and who have held an account for at least 12 months can benefit from a range of offers, also including fee-free whole of market mortgage advice.
