Holiday home happiness thanks to Harrison Murray

Cambridgeshire born-and-bred Bernie Burton loves the area in which he has always lived, so it was Fen-tastic when Harrison Murray Estate Agency helped him buy his ideal holiday home in the area recently.

The 70-year-old former Environment Agency labourer had been craving the “quiet life” ever since retiring due to back trouble 12 years ago, so bagging a picturesque two-bedroomed chalet overlooking a lake in Welney has been ‘just what the doctor ordered’.

Bernie was assisted in achieving his dream by Harrison Murray’s March office estate agency manager Nicola Roberts and her dedicated team. They pulled out all the stops to not only help him secure the Pisces Country Park pad but also help Bernie quickly sell a bungalow nearby.

And now Bernie and his beloved pet dog Buster can travel the short distance from their home in March to spend long breaks by the water - surrounded by otters, buzzards, badgers and woodpeckers - as often as they want.

Bernie takes up the story: “I really like it around here and have always liked the idea of a holiday home as I enjoy the quiet life now I’m retired. But of course the challenge, as for anyone buying property, was to find the ideal place at an affordable price.

“My friend pointed out the chalet to me and I fell in love with it straight away. It’s in a stunning spot and is perfect for taking Buster for walks or simply sitting on the decking with friends and having a good chat and a laugh.

“I knew it wouldn’t stay on the market long as it’s a fantastic property in an idyllic location so it was important to move fast and I can’t thank Nicola and her team at Harrison Murray enough for tying up the sale of my bungalow and the purchase within about ten weeks.

“It’s not just the efficiency they showed in getting everything completed that impressed me. They are a wonderful office who really care about the customer - every time I popped in to the branch to see them there was always such a fabulous atmosphere and it was like being part of one big happy family.

“Experience has taught me that with a lot of estate agents once they have your business signed and sealed they don’t seem to care quite as much as when they
were getting you onto the market, but with Harrison Murray the sales progression is superb.

“They were as passionate about everything running smoothly as I was and I can’t fault them for anything they did. When I went to pick up the keys to the chalet they
even popped the kettle on and we had a cup of tea and a biscuit. I highly recommend them to anyone.”

Another factor that impressed Bernie was that he could also sort out all of his conveyancing needs via Harrison Murray too, saving him time and money. He adds: “It was great to be able to arrange the conveyancing through Harrison Murray. It took a time and stress out of things because it meant everything was being dealt with under one roof and for a competitive price.

“The fact that they are part of the Nottingham Building Society gives them extra credibility too, and the customer piece of mind that they are under the umbrella of such a reputable and large organisation.

It’s really good that people can sort all their savings and financial and estate planning arrangements out in the same branch too - I am certainly considering popping back in the near future to talk to an adviser about a few things, including writing a will.”

With better weather hopefully on the horizon Bernie is now looking forward to his new property giving him the opportunity to reignite a pastime he has not partaken in
for four decades.

“When the weather is warmer I’m going to get the fishing rod out for the first time in 40 years and see what I can catch. I can’t wait because I find fishing so relaxing.”
