Martin and Kimberley's Lifetime ISA story
Dad-of-two Mark Crowley isn’t in the age demographic to take out a Lifetime ISA (LISA) himself but he’s certainly a big fan of the account, particularly the role it has played in helping both his son and daughter onto the property ladder.
Mark and his wife Karen, from Dereham in Norfolk, have always been keen to educate son Martin and daughter Kimberley, who are both in their 20s, about the value of money and the importance of saving.
And those valuable life lessons have now played a part in Martin and Kimberley getting set to move into their first homes with their partners. These big life goals have become possible thanks to support and expertise from The Nottingham’s Dereham branch.
As well as talking through savings options with the pair when they first set up their LISAs a couple of years ago, the branch team later introduced Martin and Kimberley to Nottingham Mortgage Services (NMS).
This broker service, provided in a socially distanced environment at the branch or over the telephone, gave the young home-buyers access to a search of over 60 lenders which resulted in them finding the right mortgage for them. All being well, both couples are set to pick up the keys to properties that they have had offers accepted and mortgages agreed on at the end of summer.
Mark spoke about his pride in helping his children achieve their life goals: “Karen has saved at the branch for many years and I know the team there well as they’ve been helping me with some family Power of Attorney matters. They have known us all since Martin and Kimberley were young kids.
“The role they’ve played in helping them onto the property ladder is huge and they’re always willing to make a cuppa and sit down and discuss options with great care and expertise, for any or all of us!
“There’s no doubt in my mind that the Lifetime ISAs were right for Martin and Kimberley, especially given the current low interest rates for savers. Without LISAs they would have had to put their home buying dreams on hold for a longer period.
“Finding out about the NMS service was really useful and given how brilliant the branch team have been it is no surprise that they both decided to take out mortgages via NMS too.
“It will be a really proud moment for Karen and I when the kids get the keys to their houses as they have saved really hard for this like we have always encouraged them to. A huge thank-you to the Dereham branch team and NMS mortgage advisers for their help in making this happen.”
Teacher Kimberley added: “Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, our minimum deposit shifted from the 10% we were originally saving for, up to 15%. As first time buyers in the early stages of our careers, reaching the new deposit amount would have taken longer without our LISAs.
“My partner and I are glad we spoke to Nottingham Mortgage Services. They were really helpful and, most importantly of all, able to find the right mortgage for us. We are now really excited to move into our new home, as I know my brother Martin is to move into his too.”
