There are lots of considerations when it comes to finding the right home. It can be an exhausting process and is one that we know all too well. We've put together a list of essential requirements to help you with one of the biggest purchases you'll ever make. 

  • Work out what you can afford

  • The next stop is location

    This is again a key factor in ensuring you make the right choice. Consider catchment areas for your children’s schools and the distance to and from work. Visit the area at different times of the day; maybe stay over in a local hotel/B&B to trial out the journey to and from work/school. With all this in mind, don’t be too strict about your specific area, widen out your search 5 or 10 miles either side.

  • Decide on the core requirements

    If your plans include living with an older parent, then you could be looking for a property that has an annexe or an area where potential extension/renovation could be built once the property is purchased. If this is the case, look into planning permission in the area and what other properties on the same street have done.

  • When you find a property that you like the look of

    Consider the surrounding area too (Street View and Google Maps are really useful tools to get an idea of the house and its surrounding properties). If you’re still happy, arrange a viewing with the estate agency.

  • Visit lots of properties

    So that you have something to compare against, that way you’ll open your horizons to properties that might not have been on your radar, but could be the perfect home for you.
