March box clever for Queen’s 90th

Staff at our March branch had a glove-ly surprise when world renowned former boxer Dave Boy Green popped in for a cuppa to help them celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday.

Local legend Dave, who lives in nearby Chatteris, was a very apt guest of honour at a tea party to celebrate Her Majesty’s milestone due to his royal links - just a few years ago he was a visitor to Buckingham Palace to pick up an MBE awarded to him for services to charity.

Patriotic Dave, 63, said: “It was an honour to be at the branch tea party and chat with the extremely friendly and knowledgeable estate agency and building society team. They are a lovely group of people.

“I think it’s fantastic 57 branches of The Nottingham held tea parties to celebrate Her Majesty’s birthday – they are a company right at the heart of the community and this was just another example of that.”

Estate agency manager Nicola Roberts added: “Dave is a huge hero to many around here and is extremely popular – as of course is Her Majesty. Twin that with the fact that he has an MBE and he was a perfect guest.

“A big thank you to him for coming along and to all of our customers who helped make the day a huge success.”

Dave Boy Green enjoyed a boxing career spanning nearly 15 years, before retiring in 1981. In his time in the ring he was involved in top level WBC title fights, including taking on the might of Sugar Ray Leonard in 1980.
