Emily Westcott – Mortgage adviser
Emily joined The Nottingham in a branch role before training to be a mortgage adviser through our mortgage academy. She now works in our central sales team at head office.
I left school at 16 with eight GCSEs and went to work at a supermarket before joining an estate agents.
At 21 I joined The Nottingham. For four years I worked at one of our branches gaining experience of estate agency and savings, before joining the intermediary support team (IST) at head office. This is where my interest in the world of mortgages began.
Through the mortgage academy I was given the opportunity to complete the adviser qualifications Ce-map 1, 2 and 3.
I felt fully supported throughout my Ce-map journey and I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support I received. I was given one-on-one time to help me with my revision and was given study sessions within work time.
During this time I was lucky enough to secure a new role within the central mortgage team, where I was able to use my customer service and organisation skills as well as the mortgage knowledge gained from IST.
Once I had completed my qualification I applied for a mortgage adviser role and was successful in getting the job.
With the support of my managers I managed to reach my final goal and I am now a fully qualified mortgage adviser.
My advice to someone starting their career now would be not to be afraid of asking for support and help from those around you to help get you where you want to.
