A grand effort for SportsAid.

Our fundraising frenzy for our 2015 SportsAid stars has got off to a flying start this year with generous staff raising over £1,000 for the charity.

Mapperley, Carlton and Netherfield branches have been raising money for local speed-skating star Holly Hoyland by holding an Easter Egg raffle and even tasking their branch manager with competing in a 10k run. Mapperley’s Jo Nutt ran the Sinfin run last weekend despite only being off crutches due to a knee injury three weeks before. The keen runner says ‘The first five miles were OK but struggled to complete the last few and really had to push myself to get around the course. That said, this and the bake-sale we ran in branch has netted over £60 alone for Holly so really pleased with that result as every penny helps.’

Tennis star Freya Christie has been making the most of the UK sun in the run up to Wimbledon by helping out with our tennis events in the last few weeks. The seventeen year old from Hucknall is supported by Nottingham’s Parliament Street branch and has been out with the team shaking tins in Market Square along with Ruddington’s wheelchair tennis star James Shaw. The Ruddington team have been collecting small-change cash in branch for James, who is currently away competing for Team GB, and hoping to use the donations to help fund a new chair.

Grantham branch raised over £140 for para-swimmer Hayley Milne with their Nottingham Forest goodies raffle whilst Ashbourne have been rattling tins at the town’s May Day Fun Day collecting £55 for badminton star Grace King.

At head office, departments across the business have been joining in the fun with our Central Sales And Service team raffling off ‘money can’t buy prizes’ such as ‘having tea made by your manager’ and a ‘free car parking space for a week’ to raise some cash for para-sprinter Julie Rogers and to celebrate the start of the ‘tennis season’ staff also dressed up in tennis gear for the day raising £70 for the charity.
