Andrew doesn't do things by halves
Customer adviser Andrew Morley showed the people of Crystal Peaks he’s so keen to participate in a forthcoming half-marathon that he ran the equivalent of the 13-mile course to prove it!
Andrew, who works at our society’s branch on Norfolk Row in Sheffield, is taking part in the Plusnet Yorkshire Half-marathon in the steel city on 9 April. He will be joined by colleagues Jonathan Pitchfork and David Watson from our Nottingham head office and the trio will raise money for the Hallam FM Cash For Kids charity.
To help his training for, and profile of, the event Andrew recently swapped his business suit for running gear and took to a treadmill at our Crystal Peaks Shopping Centre branch.
The idea was that he would run a mile or so in front of members of the public and mascot Robin Hood, who had himself hotfooted up from Sherwood Forest to meet Andrew.
But he actually went on to clock up a mightily impressive 13 miles (in just 2 hours 11 minutes) and raise a brilliant £150 - over half of his big race target - for Cash For Kids.
Speaking after a well-deserved cool-down Andrew said: “My colleagues and I are really looking forward to the half-marathon and are proud to be running for the Hallam FM Cash For Kids charity, which is a fabulous cause and one we here at The Nottingham have supported for some time now.
“The original idea was that I’d just run a mile or two on the treadmill to give the event, and our participation in it some publicity but the kind people of South Yorkshire once again showed how giving they are and were digging deep so it felt only fair that I should carry on running.”
Anyone who would like to sponsor Andrew and his two colleagues for the half-marathon can do so by visiting nottinghambuildingsociety.everydayhero.com/uk/andrew-morley-s-half-marathon.
The Nottingham would also like to say a big thank-you to Places Gym in Crystal Peaks, Sheffield, for the kindly donating the treadmill for the day.
