Margaret's mortgage story
Relationship break-ups are never easy, especially when there is property involved, as Margaret Stone found out during her recent divorce.
A top priority for Margaret was making sure she could stay in her home in Huthwaite, Nottinghamshire, where she has lived and raised a family for two decades.
A remortgage was required so she could buy-out her ex-partner’s share, and a trip to The Nottingham’s Sutton branch made that happen after Margaret received a recommendation via the society’s Family Comes First initiative.
Mum-of-two Margaret, 52, explains: “The end of a relationship is a very difficult time and that was no different for me as my husband and I had been together for almost 30 years.
“It’s traumatic and impacts the entire family, but from the off it was important to me to keep the house, as this is where our two children have been brought up and the place our grandchildren see as the family home.
“It was touch and go at one point as to whether it would be possible as the quote I got from our bank, who we have always had the mortgage with, was unaffordable. At that point I thought I was going to have to move house.
“The Nottingham was recommended to me and just a couple of days after visiting the branch team I was back and talking to a Nottingham Mortgage Services adviser through the in-branch video system.
“After listening to my circumstances she searched mortgage deals from lots of different lenders, which surprised me as I thought the only options would be mortgages from The Nottingham.
“We found a product that was £200 a month lower than the quote from my bank. It’s also fixed for five years, which is something that was important to me so I can budget accordingly.”
Now her ex-partner has signed the deeds over to her, Margaret is positively looking forward to moving on with her life. And she has no hesitation in recommending a conversation with Nottingham Mortgage Services to anyone looking for a mortgage or remortgage.
Margaret adds: “If I’d not received the recommendation for Nottingham Mortgage Services, none of this would be possible. I’d probably have had to find somewhere else to live.
“It’s great that they are happy to help find the right mortgage deal for customers, even if it’s not with them.
“From the very first time I walked into the branch, all the team were professional and friendly. They listened to my requirements and couldn’t do enough to try and help. They know their customers by name, something that’s very rare these days, and the customer service is excellent.
“Speaking to a Nottingham Mortgage Services adviser directly meant I could ask questions and understand the answers that bit easier than if I was making an online query or application. I would encourage anyone looking for a mortgage or remortgage to phone and have a conversation with them. They may be able to help make the seemingly impossible possible, as they did for me.”
