Aaron Shinwell named as new Chief Lending Officer
Nottingham Building Society, the mortgages and savings mutual, has announced that Aaron Shinwell will become its new Chief Lending Officer.
Aaron joins the 175-year-old mutual from Santander UK, where he was Commercial Director – Homes, responsible for overseeing mortgage strategy, pricing, proposition development, and portfolio management.
During his time at Santander, he managed the commercial, customer and transformation priorities for the mortgage business with approximately 1.8 million customers, £167 billion outstanding balances and was instrumental in delivering ~£55 billion of lending to new and existing customers annually.
With over 20 years of experience in financial services, Aaron has held senior leadership roles at HSBC and Lloyds Banking Group. He has a proven track record of driving strategic change, leading high-performing teams, and delivering innovative mortgage solutions that balance commercial success with outstanding customer outcomes.
He succeeds Praven Subbramoney, who is leaving Nottingham Building Society to pursue a new opportunity. Greg Went, currently Head of Mortgage Product and Proposition, will assume the Chief Lending Officer role and join the Executive team on an interim basis until Aaron takes up the position permanently.
Speaking about the appointment, Sue Hayes, Chief Executive Officer at Nottingham Building Society, said: “We are delighted to welcome Aaron to Nottingham Building Society. His deep expertise in mortgage strategy, transformation, and customer-focused innovation makes him a fantastic addition to our leadership team. His appointment reinforces our commitment to delivering great value and service to our members while strengthening our lending proposition in an evolving market.
“I would also like to extend my sincere thanks to Praven for his significant contribution to the Society. He has played a key role in shaping our lending strategy, and we wish him every success in his future endeavours.”
