Sanders family have a gem of a garden
The Sanders family from Bingham are looking forward to spending summer days in their new-look garden – thanks to the Nottingham Building Society (The Nottingham) and gem106.
Mum Ellie won a fantastic garden makeover courtesy of The Nottingham after winning a competition featured on the radio station – and the dream prize couldn’t have come at a better time.
Just two days before the garden unveiling Ellie, husband Mark and 18-month-old daughter Jessica welcomed a new addition to the brood when bouncing baby boy Caleb was born.
Less than 48 hours later the happy family were celebrating again as gem106 Breakfast Show host Sam Pinkham led them into their new-look garden, paid for by The Nottingham.
The Sanders landed the prize after Ellie sent in a photo of their previously rundown, dilapidated garden and explained that the area was unsafe for Jessica to play in.
Events Manager Ellie said: “This truly is a dream come true. We moved into the house two years ago and set about doing work on some of the rooms to turn it into our perfect family home. Mark had started a bit of work on the garden but as always with these things they can easily get put on the back-burner.
“When I heard about The Nottingham and gem106 garden makeover competition it just seemed a perfect fit, but of course you never expect to win. The last thing I won was a colouring competition at school when I was five!
“So to find out in a phone call from Sam – live on air – that we had won left me a jibbering wreck. And now to see the garden how it is and how beautiful it looks is a dream come true. We can’t thank The Nottingham and gem106 enough.
“Previously the garden was a decent sized space but it wasn’t safe for Jessica to play in and whilst we were determined to get it sorted it was somewhere down the list of priorities.
“The garden now looks amazing and all of those people involved in transforming it are absolutely amazing, thank you to each and every one of them.
“Now we are looking forward to enjoying spending time together as a family and making many happy memories in the garden. This has been the perfect end to the week that we welcomed Caleb into our family.”
