Jonathan's saving story

Teacher Jonathan Hale is used to educating young people, however when it comes to the subject of saving money he admits he has not always been top of the class!

With the help of The Nottingham the 38-year-old dad-of-one recently put a savings plan in place that will provide a better future for himself and for his family.

Although, like many of us, he wishes he had set more aside earlier, Jonathan is now focused on what he can do moving forward - with one aim to help his five-year-old daughter finance her university education in years to come if that’s the path she chooses.

Jonathan, from Sherwood in Nottingham, says: “I’ve always struggled to save but I know it’s important for me to start putting money away now as I have a good income and I want to be able to provide for my daughter's future.

“I wanted savings away from my regular current account that are not easy to access and the accounts I’ve opened at The Nottingham suit those needs.

“I aim to have savings in place for myself but, even more importantly, for my daughter. I would like to be able to help her out should she go to university and I should be able to satisfy my savings needs if they continue as they are.

“With savings, I think it’s never too early or too late as it’s always a good habit to get into, however small the amount is each month. I’m very fortunate to be in this position now and there may come a time when I can help family members and friends.”

Jonathan visited our Sherwood branch to open his savings accounts as he wanted to discuss his options in person, and was delighted with how things went.

“The customer service was excellent from the very beginning - really friendly and understanding of my needs, interests and motivation for saving.

“Jo (Customer Services Consultant) chatted through the different types of accounts and explained the rates and terms so I could work out which one was best for my personal circumstances. It’s great to actually chat it through rather than read about it online. I feel like I can pop in at any time and know that I'm in good hands.

“She got to know me and my situation quickly and I have since made further visits to the branch and she has instantly remembered me and asked about my family and my camper van as she also has one.

“I have and will continue to recommend The Nottingham as a result of the service I received. Having personal service is important to me - it may sound old fashioned but it is something you struggle to come across these days.”
