Sunny times ahead for Leicester and Wigston
Walk down any Leicestershire high street with Sunny Johal, the new manager of the The Nottingham’s Leicester and Wigston branches, and it’s not long before he’s saying hello to someone he knows, or vice versa.
Having been born and bred in Leicester the 29-year-old is a familiar face and it’s not just because he possesses a disposition that matches his first name.
Former Lancaster School pupil Sunny may now be helping people reach their savings goals but it’s his talent for scoring a fair few of his own on the football pitch that has helped make him such a well-known figure.
A Leicester City academy player up to the age of 15, the beautiful game has always been in Sunny’s blood and for the past few years the FC GNG striker has topped the scoring charts in the Leicestershire Senior League.
His pride for all things Leicester, and his extensive network, put him in a perfect position as he and his team prepare to officially launch their new branch (which combines The Nottingham and Harrison Murray Estate Agency
) in Wigston on Friday (15 January) having opened its doors to customers a couple of months ago.
Sunny (pictured with a medal he won as a Leicester City Academy player) says: “I was born and raised in Leicester and cannot see myself living anywhere else even if I was a millionaire. I love the place.
“I was fortunate enough to play for Leicester City until I was 15 and know a couple of lads that are still there, including goalkeeper Conrad Logan. Currently I play for a local team which allows me to keep fit and meet new people – this has really helped me to network as well as loving the sport too of course.
“I’ve been with The Nottingham for just over two years, in Customer Adviser, Reviewer and Senior Customer Adviser roles. The company have really supported my personal development and I recommend them to anyone looking to start a career.
“I’m proud to have been named manager of the Leicester and Wigston branches and my team and I are passionate about driving forward our unique ‘all-under-one-roof’ building society and estate agency model.
“Maybe one of my old Leicester City pals will even pop in and open an account or buy a property from us!”
The Nottingham’s New Locations Area Manager Diane Walters adds: “I walked down the street in Leicester with Sunny and it felt like he knew everyone and they knew him! It was a very uplifting experience.
“As an organisation we pride ourselves on having branches on the high street and having teams in them that know the communities they are serving – that’s why Sunny is an excellent choice to lead the Leicester and Wigston branches forward.”
