Wayne Curtis - Customer service assistant
Customer services assistant Wayne brings his high level of customer service to The Nottingham’s branch network and is also busy in our community.
When I was at school I wanted to be a journalist. I left school with GCSEs and 2 A-levels in English literature and history which I really enjoyed.
My first ever job was a Saturday job at Wilkinson hardware stores in Nottingham city centre. I got this job after seeing an advert and applying with my CV. Throughout the years there I progressed to section leader and then to a supervisor running teams and managing the branch on Sunday openings. I also worked at an independent lighting shop, then WHSmith as an assistant manager. I really enjoyed my time in retail – I learned a lot about good customer service and using my time effectively.
I joined the Nottingham in 2014 as a customer service assistant in branch working on the counter and doing reviews. I am currently back to being a customer services assistant but throughout the years I have been a customer reviewer (undertaking reviews of customer’s finances) and done secondments as a senior adviser running branches in the branch manager’s absence. I have also been a ‘Brand champ’ in a number of branches promoting The Nottingham in the community. I have organised and taken part in many fundraising and volunteering roles and really love the opportunity to engage with the communities in which I have worked.
My advice for anyone starting their career now would be to learn as much as you can, take your time and learn your trade from the basics up and enjoy every minute of it.
