No Mortgage Stress – Natalie and Marc
Natalie and Marc Sawkins had a grand start to 2020 when they collected a £1,000 cheque from The Nottingham.
It was a surprise bonus that followed hot on the heels of a remortgage on their Buxton home they were worried they wouldn’t be able to get – that is until they had a conversation with Nottingham Mortgage Services.
Probation Services Officer Natalie and retail manager husband Marc, who have a son Oliver (7) and daughter Emily (4), had endured a challenging 2019 due to changing job roles.
That took a toll on their finances, and with their mortgage also due to rise by over £150 a month at the end of their fixed rate period they were set for even more money pressure.
In a bid to ease things Natalie began to look online for a remortgage but was frustrated only to find deals where the numbers didn’t add up for her and Marc.
After chatting things through they decided that they wanted to speak to someone face-to-face to ask their questions and ensure they got the right deal for them, so Natalie visited the Buxton branch of The Nottingham to enquire about Nottingham Mortgage Services (NMS).
The pair spoke to Mortgage Adviser Jonathan Saint via the video conference offering available in all of The Nottingham’s branches, and he explained NMS would search over 60 lenders - and thousands of mortgages - to find a product to suit their needs.
Natalie takes up the tale: “I found looking online for a remortgage very frustrating and time consuming so it was a no-brainer for us to go and seek mortgage advice in person.
“The Nottingham’s branch team were brilliant in explaining all about Nottingham Mortgage Services, and said there was a competition at the time whereby one person using the NMS service would win £1,000.
“To be honest I didn’t really think twice about the competition after that as my priority was getting a more affordable remortgage deal.
“Jonathan was brilliant in explaining everything to us and answering our questions. He later confirmed we had secured a mortgage that would not only be less each month than our current lender but also have a reduced term and cashback too.
“It was very good news, and even more so as within two weeks of the remortgage completing I fell ill and was admitted to hospital with a suspected blood clot. It was a very stressful time of hospital appointments and CT scans but the pressure was eased somewhat by knowing the remortgage was secured.”
Natalie’s health began to improve and remarkably in the week that she received a letter from the hospital saying there were no leftover traces of a blood clot and her scans were clear of any further abnormalities, she also received a phone call from Jonathan to say she and Marc had won the £1,000.
She adds: “Marc and I have never won a thing so when Jonathan called to tell me I was absolutely stunned. It was a big surprise - albeit a lovely one when it finally sank in.
“As a family we are very happy with the service and expertise we received from NMS in taking away the stress of looking for a new mortgage.
“Winning the competition is the icing on the cake and we are really looking forward to 2020 being a better year for us. The kids certainly are as the prize money allowed us to put a deposit down on a dream trip to Lapland in December.”
