The Nottingham announces Panthers sponsorship
We have become the new headline sponsor of The Nottingham Panthers Ice Hockey Club.
The deal is set to last for up to ten years and was announced at Nottingham Panthers’ annual Awards Night at the East Midlands Conference Centre this evening (Tuesday 27 March).
Simon Taylor, our Chief Operating Officer, said: “We are delighted to announce that we have become the headline sponsor and will become the Official Building Society of The Nottingham Panthers.
“The Nottingham Panthers has the highest average attendance of any ice hockey club in the UK and they have loyal fans locally, nationally and internationally. We know how much those fans appreciate the importance of a deal like this.
“The club sits within the Elite Ice Hockey League and their appetite for success is amazing. Last year they won the Continental Cup, making them the first British ice hockey team to claim a major European trophy.
“The Panther’s appetite for success mirrors our own as we have expanded our branch network from 32 to 67 branches in the last five years. We have also grown our branch balances to over £2 billion and we are now the 8th largest building society with the 5th largest branch network in the UK.
“This new sponsorship sits within our partnership programme and we are very proud to support such a prestigious club in our home city of Nottingham.
“So many of our customers, members and staff are die-hard Panthers fans and will welcome our partnership with the club since we both share an ethos of working in our local communities.
“Other aspects of our sports sponsorship include our continuing programme with SportsAid, supporting 160 budding local athletes in their sporting ambitions and our partnership with Leicester Tigers that has enabled 2,500 local children to take part in TAG rugby. We are also the local event partner for the Nottingham Open tennis tournament this summer.
“Over the last seven years we have also raised a milestone £50,000 for Framework, our local homelessness charity and in 2017 we handed out £37,000 to 14 local charities through our Grants for Good programme.
“Supporting local charities is an objective we share with The Nottingham Panthers, who last year made the largest ever donation to The Nottinghamshire Hospice.
“The Panthers are iconic in Nottingham and we are delighted to be working with them and we hope to share many years of joint success.”
Neil Black, Chairman of The Nottingham Panthers, said: “We are delighted to welcome the Nottingham Building Society as main team sponsor. This partnership will help us break new ground commercially and also within our local community, ensuring we continue giving our fan base the very best well into the future.”
