Nottingham Building Society's Sutton in Ashfield branch

Four miles west of Mansfield, the market town of Sutton-in-Ashfield (known to most as simply Sutton) is accessible via the A38 and is just two miles from junction 28 of the M1, close to the East Midlands Designer Outlet. The former site of Silverhill Colliery, on thenorth-west edge of Ashfield, was transformed into woodland - featuring the highest point in Nottinghamshire - following the colliery’s closure. King’s Mill Hospital is located between Sutton and Mansfield.

Our Sutton branch is centrally located on Low Street, close to shops, restaurants and a travel agency. Branch staff can guide you through everything from opening an ISA or junior savings account to finding the right mortgage using our mortgage broker service, provided by Nottingham Mortgage Services, financial planning or buying or selling property. They will expertly assist you with our range of building society and estate agency services.

Services available at our branch include:

  • Building society
  • Mortgage advisers

Bite-sized fact: In 1999, and despite being unable to get a ceremony licence, the town’s ASDA became the first supermarket in the United Kingdom to hold a blessing and reception.

Sutton-in-Ashfield branch in the news

Kind-hearted Eric boxes off literacy support

Generous Eric Wint played his part in helping the literacy levels of young people by donating two large boxes of books to a collection at our Sutton-in-Ashfield branch.

Eric was putting money into his children’s savings accounts when he saw a green book donation box (we have one in every branch!) and information about our support for the work of the National Literacy Trust.

He saw that as inspiration for a clear-out at home and returned to hand over the haul of books his family no longer need.

Jonathan Douglas, Chief Executive of the National Literacy Trust, said: “We’d like to thank Eric and all the fantastic members of The Nottingham who have generously donated books to support our work to change the future for disadvantaged children through literacy.”

All money raised through the sale of the books by Better World Books will support the National Literacy Trust’s work to get books into the hands of children living in deprived areas where low levels of literacy are seriously impacting people’s lives.

Caring member donates part of prize to Framework

Member Diane Swift wasted no time in making a kind-hearted gesture after hearing she had won £100 in a competition.

Diane saw the food and toiletries collection the Sutton branch team are doing for Framework, a charity working with local homeless people, and decided to donate £25 of her winnings towards buying items for it.

She landed the money after enquiring about home insurance on a visit to the branch, being introduced to RSA and putting a policy in place that suited her needs before being entered into a draw to win one of over 60 £100 prizes we gave away via our branches.

Customer Services Consultant Martin Neale said: “We were very touched when she said she wanted to donate £25 of it to our Framework collection so that homeless people can benefit from the food and toiletries. It’s a very generous gesture.”

Branch team organise Framework collection

Our Sutton team are collecting food and toiletries in support of Framework’s Transitions project, which supports those aged 16 to 21 in developing independence skills such as how to look after a home and how to budget.

All donations of non-perishable food items and unused toiletries will be passed on to young people to assist them when moving into temporary or permanent accommodation.

Customer services assistant Chloe Hawkins said: “The Nottingham has supported Framework for eight years so when we heard about the positive impact Transitions is having locally it made sense to show our support.

“Everyone deserves a home where they feel safe and able to move forward with their lives. Backing this project sits well with our ethos of everyone having a roof over their head.”

Sutton’s fantastic Framework gesture

Branch manager Emma Whild visited Framework to present them with items donated by kind-hearted members.

Emma took time out to visit one of the charity's temporary accommodation locations and handed over the donations.

She said: “It was a very humbling experience to visit Framework but I'm delighted to have been able to leave them with so many items donated by kind-hearted members.”
