Nottingham Building Society's Fakenham branch

A market town in Norfolk, Fakenham is located 25 miles north west of Norwich and just under 20 miles north east of King’s Lynn. Accessible via the A1065 or A148, its attractions include the racecourse and the Museum of Gas and Local History - the only surviving town gasworks in England and Wales, complete with all equipment used for the manufacture of gas from coal. The name Fakenham is Saxon, possibly meaning Fair Place/Place on a Fair River, or hamlet (ham) on the river.

Our branch is prominently positioned in the town centre, on Bridge Street, close to retail outlets including a coffee shop and opticians, a hair salon and pubs. The experienced and friendly team are on hand to discuss a range of savings accounts or talk about financial or estate planning. They can also assist with finding a mortgage through our mortgage broker service, provided by Nottingham Mortgage Services, or help you with home insurance.

Services available at our branch include:

  • Building society
  • Mortgage advisers
  • Insurance
  • Estate planning
  • Financial planning

Match scores £475 for Norfolk charity

Our Thetford, Dereham and Fakenham teams tackled a fundraising football match and fun day – and raised £475 for a local charity.

Two Rockland United sides went head-to-head in the match - which ended 3-3 and had to be settled by penalties - organised by the branches and enjoyed by a sizeable crowd.

But the best result was the funds raised for Premier Foundation, a not-for-profit charity that helps disengaged young people get on track and have improved future prospects.

The money was made via fun activities and attractions such as a face painter, ice cream van, bouncy castles, cake stall, raffle and tombola.
Premier Foundation CEO Amelia Epton said: “We are indebted to The Nottingham for their hard work and passion to help us by organising what was a fantastic day.”

Firewalk four raise over £325 for local charity

A quartet of colleagues from our Fakenham and Dereham branches bravely completed a firewalk and made over £325 for local charity, Break.

Claire Brown, Charley McIlwhan, Jodie Horne and Aly Silvester walked barefoot over hot coals. To add some healthy competition, they challenged staff at the nearby Nationwide Building Society to also do the firewalk to see who could raise the most for the charity. Nationwide weighed in with more than £300, taking the impressive total raised to over £625.

Assistant Branch Manager Claire said: “We had ‘fun’ taking part - the temperatures were around 1,220°F! It was an exciting experience but most importantly we helped raise a significant amount of money for Break. It will be used to support young adults leaving the care system in finding safe and secure homes.”

Branch cheque in with local charity

Fakenham charity First Focus received a welcome boost when we dropped in to present them with a cheque for £3,300.

The charity was one of nine fantastic organisations who received Grants For Good totalling £32,000 from The Nottingham.

Assistant Branch Manager Claire Brown (centre) handed the donation over to the charity’s April Simnor (left) and Clarissa Belson.

It will assist First Focus in their work with job centres and colleges to achieve employability via online training courses, personal life skills, job applications and CV writing and life skills.
