Nottingham Building Society's Harpenden branch

A Hertfordshire commuter town, Harpenden has a direct rail connection to London and close road links to the A1(M), M1 and M25. Located between Luton to the north and St Albans to the south, its property prices are well over double the national average. Over the years valuable Roman remains have been found in fields surrounding the town that is also home to Rothamsted Manor and Rothamsted Research, a leading centre for agricultural research.

Our Harpenden branch is located prominently in the centre of Harpenden, on Church Green, close to a church, dentist and food hall on the new Harpenden branch page. The team of customer services experts are happy to assist, whether that’s in opening a new ISA, helping find the right mortgage through our mortgage broker service, provided by Nottingham Mortgage Services, assisting in getting you the best price for the purchase or sale of a property or discussing a funeral plan.

Services available at our branch include:

  • Building society
  • Mortgage advisers
  • Estate agency
  • Insurance
  • Estate planning
  • Financial planning

Bite-sized fact: During the Second World War, many children were evacuated to Harpenden from heavily-bombed London.

Branch sign up to local dementia friendly scheme

Our Harpenden branch team have put their name to a pledge to make the town more understanding to the needs of people with dementia. Colleagues joined representatives from other local businesses at a town council meeting, at which it was discussed how to make Harpenden a Dementia Friendly Town.

They agreed to become a Dementia Friend, and in doing so became part of a movement with over 2.5m members across the UK dedicated to learning more about dementia and the small ways people and organisations can help.

Assistant Branch Manager Sophie Roe said: “Someone with dementia can find a basic task - e.g. making a cup of tea, pairing up socks, making the bed or writing a note - extremely difficult. Therefore, visiting their local building society branch could be a very nervy thought.

“Something as simple as putting tea in a different coloured cup to white, as dementia sufferers can’t see tea in white mugs, or going through things again if they look puzzled can make a big difference. It’s a really important part of our ethos that we keep members at the heart of everything we do, so being a Dementia Friend can only help in us providing an even more member-focused service.”
