Important information about your branch

We’re sorry to inform you that our Harpenden branch of The Nottingham will be closing permanently on 30th November 2020.

The decision to close the branch doesn’t mean we want to lose you as a member and we’ll do all we can to continue to help you with your day to day needs.

From 30th November 2020 we'd love to welcome you to your nearest branch which is less than five miles away from the Harpenden branch. You can visit us at 4 St. Peters Street, St Albans, Hertfordshire AL1 3LF where the team will be very happy to look after you and continue to benefit from the high levels of service you’re used to.

Our commitment to branches

We don’t take the decision to close a branch lightly. Branches and the team members who work in them are a vital part of what we offer to our members. We know some of our members are choosing to deal with us in different ways and this means some of our branches are visited less often. We’ve decided to merge a small number of branches in locations where there are already several branches in close proximity.

By merging branches we can continue to offer you great service from one location rather than running two, and means you can continue to use our branch services by visiting a branch that’s close to the one you use now.

You’ll find your new branch at:
4 St. Peters Street
St Albans
Hertfordshire
AL1 3LF
Tel: 01727 863 114

You can find out more about our St Albans branch here.

Extra ways to manage your money

As well as visiting a branch you might find it convenient to contact us in other ways – over the telephone or by email – giving you more flexibility over how you manage your money.

Harpenden branch in the news

Branch sign up to local dementia friendly scheme

Our Harpenden branch team have put their name to a pledge to make the town more understanding to the needs of people with dementia. Colleagues joined representatives from other local businesses at a town council meeting, at which it was discussed how to make Harpenden a Dementia Friendly Town.

They agreed to become a Dementia Friend, and in doing so became part of a movement with over 2.5m members across the UK dedicated to learning more about dementia and the small ways people and organisations can help.

Assistant Branch Manager Sophie Roe said: “Someone with dementia can find a basic task - e.g. making a cup of tea, pairing up socks, making the bed or writing a note - extremely difficult. Therefore, visiting their local building society branch could be a very nervy thought.

“Something as simple as putting tea in a different coloured cup to white, as dementia sufferers can’t see tea in white mugs, or going through things again if they look puzzled can make a big difference. It’s a really important part of our ethos that we keep members at the heart of everything we do, so being a Dementia Friend can only help in us providing an even more member-focused service.”
