Easter treats for less

Easter is almost here and as well as family time, an extra long weekend and chocolate eggs galore, it’s time for some fun activities to do (hopefully) in the sun. We’ve teamed up with Faith Archer, mother of two, former Deputy Personal Finance Editor at The Daily Telegraph and money blogger at Much More With Less for some great Easter ideas on a family budget.

1. Collect the eggs

Why not create an Easter egg hunt at home with a difference? Give two siblings or teams different coloured eggs, ask them to hide them for the other and then they have to find them. The team that find the most of the other team’s eggs - wins. Simple. Or, try your own DIY Easter egg hunt for the kids and leave clues to lead them to the next hiding place - this means they'll have to work together as a team!

2. DIY Decorations

For a pre-Easter activity that’s fun and gets kids away from screens try creating DIY decor to make your home feel spring-like for the weekend. Raid the craft box for pastel-coloured card and grab a cotton wool pleat for added fluff for bunnies and lamb creations! Think cards for relatives, bunting and placeholders for Easter Sunday’s dinner.

3. Faith’s Tip: Bake up a storm

“Easter doesn't have to be all about chocolate.” says Faith. “We make ginger biscuits using an egg-shaped cutter, which my kids love decorating with pastel-coloured icing and loads of sprinkles. Easy and inexpensive activity, and can make a nice present for adoring grandparents.”

Don’t forget to add some healthy treats to the mix too. If you’re having an Easter themed lunch, try creating fruit platters with the same Easter cookie cutters. Use fruit in a range of colours like watermelon and pineapple to make a bright and attractive display.

Finally, we've created an Easter colouring sheet all ready to keep crafty kids entertained! Click here to download it.
